Played for the Buckingham Rugby Union Football Club U11 in the A’s at the Banbury Festival today.
Some hard fought matches in the leagues, but we finished 2nd in Pool A1 and went through the to the Semi-Finals of the Cup. Unfortuntaley Kettering in the semi’s where just too powerful for us. (Wont mention the refereeing decisions!)
Well done to the B’s in reaching the U11 Plate Final, again losing to a strong Amersham B side.
Last race today in the SMK winter internal race series. Coaches and volunteers managed to get the courses set and for 5 Slalom runs before the slope became too busy. Well done.
We also ran a Kombi course, with all ages on the same course – great way to see how my times match up with the older and younger racers.
So after a reasonable Giant Slalom race from bib 57, I was looking forward to today’s Slalom race. With flipped bibs I would be starting 8th out of 65, but with a mid day start for the U12, the snow would be soft and a little slushy. Optimistically I wanted a top 10 overall finish and maybe a top 5 in year of birth.
Last minute advice from Tori !
Run 1 was flawless, great stability and body positioning, and super fast. Run 1 time of 37.67seconds put me in third behind Bib 24 (37.25 and yesterday’s winner) and Bib 59 (37.62).
Run 2, so I was now in 3rd position, and nothing to loose so time to pull out that amazing run to see if I could retain 3rd or maybe even move up the podium.
Run 2 was one of my smoothest and I managed to knock 0.20 seconds off my first run time, where most others struggled to make inroads in to their first run times.
So Run 2 time moved me above Bib 59 into 2nd place, just had to stand and watch 56 other racers complete their Run 2. Bib 24 smashed his Run 1 time to 35.81, but hey he is in the older year !
The wait for everyone to finishing, including a re-run for Bib 8, was a nightmare, but nobody could beat my 2nd place time 37.45 seconds. A 2nd Place Podium !!!!
Let the on slope celebrations start !!!

Thanks for the video Byron
Looked forward to today, not raced in GS race for some time and with a very strong field of 65 from UK and European based British Schools, it means a chance to see how I have developed in this discipline. GS race was to be 3 runs with the combined best two to count.
Drawn bib 57, so today will be skiing in the ruts, and run 3 will be difficult. Realistic expectations where a top 20 overall and a high position in my Year of Birth 2004.
So Run 1, completed with fairly fast, for me, time of 34.32, which rough guess placed me in 12th overall, so very happy.
Run 2 was only just a little slower at 34.81, so with two recorded times Run 3 was the one to “gun it down”.
Run 3, according to the lady writing up the scores “was fast” but unfortunately, an earlier runner pulled the start wand cables out and no time was recorded !
So had to re-run, and clipped a gate and lost a ski !, tried to hold it and ski down on one ski but couldn’t control the speed and fell !, so DNF ! (very annoyed but thats ski racing!)
Matt Birch captures a couple of photos with one ski http://mattbirchpictures.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/9-03-2015-minis-gs-under-12-boys-run-1/G0000DmCTRhps0i4/I0000EIdoKQkr9fE/C0000iD9YieaQ1cU
So ended up 16th overall, and 8th in my Year of Birth (2004). So great 3 runs (shame about run 3 not being timed).
Need to work on my Giant Slalom this coming year as want a podium place next year !
