Gone Nuts with my Team Evolution team mates.
321 days since Tignes, finally back on snow !
Great to fly out to Bormio and catch up with my Team Evolution friends, SMK friends and everyone is the ski world again. Too early to race in Rehab journey but great to be in the mix again.
Big thanks to everyone who asked how my rehab was going. Had a few days free-skiing, a day or two in GS, Kombi and Full gates and it was great. Thank you Team Evo ! Plus new Team Evolution kit ! Great time in Milan and found an amazing Gluten Free Bakery !!! and finally found Gluten Free MacD’s! (Again massive thanks to all those who have helped me in the last 321 days!)
So back on the 28th March 2016 I had a massive tumble in Tignes and ended the day in surgery. It’s been a long hard 233 days of no-sport, rehabilitation in the gym with BRPC, examination and testing with Elite Physical Medicine, and massive frustration but always trying to smile.
So today I was allowed to Ski again. Ben put me through my paces with very easy set of drills to test out my knee. All the tests went well, so its the start of a slow and steady build-up of drills over the next few weeks !
Thank you to all that have helped me get to this stage, the Doctors at Bourge St Maurice and Stoke Mandeville, Team Evolution (Lesley for looking after me at hospital and Paul and Alex), all the Evo Parents and Athletes, Paul and Gus at Elite, Ben at Ben Reid Performance Coaching, all the staff and my school mates at Beachborough School for putting up with my non-sport frustrations, SSE Alpine Squad Management for having faith & confidence in me and giving me time to rehab, Snozone for the early piste time and lastly my family for keeping my spirits up and helping keep the drive going !
Z Man will be back !
Been resting at home, playing loads of PS4 games and watching movies.
Paul at Team Evolution has set me lots of Recovery Tasks, so been learning German on the Duolingo App (its great and can do 10-20 mins a day), also practicing my juggling.
One other task he has set is to research Olsson’s, Vonn’s and Svindal’s injuries and any special exercises during their rehab, together with how the did something fun during their rehab to keep their mind in focus.
Lesley stayed overnight with me, and also in the hospital room was Benny from Kent, UK. He had broken his femur in 2 places and the same Surgeon had operated on him after me.

Woke up, sore but in good spirits. Reidy had dropped in and dropped off some stuff including the demolished piste marker.
A day spent sleeping and resting and waiting for Dad to turn up, which he did in the afternoon.

Whilst training with Team Evolution for the Delancey British Championships in Tignes today, I landed in a funny angles, spun round and smashed through a piste marker.
Little did I know that, my fall was going to be bigger than I thought and ruin my whole Summer Season of training and racing.
After being rescued off the piste, I was taken to Le Lac Hospital, assessed and immediately transferred to the Hospital at Bourg Saint Maurice. On arrival I was re-x-rayed and straight into the operating theatre.

A massive thanks to John Reidy and Alex Reidy for their on piste emergency assistance.
So, after a 3 hour operation to plate and screw my chipped patella, and re attached my snapped patella tendons and 13 stitches (beat you Jonny M!), I was in recovery for what would be the next 3 days in hospital.

Throughout it all our wonderful Team Evolution house mum, Lesley stayed with me whilst my Parents looked at travelling out. She was amazing and I can not thank her enough for being there.
