6th September 2015 – GBR Indoor Series U12 – 3rd Place Overall

Back in early May 15 I tore my Medial Collateral Ligament whilst ski training in Hintertux and I thought it had ruined my GBR Indoor Race Series chances.

With amazing work from Paul @Elite Physio & Ben Reid I was back on skis at GBR Race 1 & 2 some 6 weeks later.  My problem for the series I was only allowed to ski these first two races back like easy training runs, so I finished just in the points.

Race 3 in Glasgow a few weeks later I finished joint 2nd, which was all part of the rehabilitation process.

So this weekend Races 4 & 5 I was hoping to pull some points back and move up the GBR leader board.  So with two 3rd places I managed to finish in 3rd place in the series behind two great U12 racers Jack and Kayne.  Congratulations to Jack and Kayne .

Looking back over the 5 months from being dragged off the piste in Hintertux in a piste basher’s bucket, weeks on crutches, hours of gym work with Ben Reid of Ben Reid Performance Coaching and skiing with Ben, Glen and Mark D at SMK, @NordicaUK and Add Evolution a 3rd Place is amazing !

Looking forward to the Winter season, hard training, the move to U14 and full gates and hopefully with lots of hard work in the gym, off piste exercise and on piste training, these podium places will be back next year indoors.

6th September 2015 – British Indoor Championships @ Chill Factore

After yesterday’s disappointment, I was trying to move up the podium steps at today’s British Indoor Champs.  Run 1 on a technically difficult top section of the course had caught a few out but I was determined to get a flying start.  Posted a fast time and finished in 2nd place after run 1.

Hoping to post a faster time, I entered the difficult offset gate wrong and had to correct and finished with a slower time.  Unfortunately for me, my fellow SMK Racer Kayne’s 2nd run was faster than my 1st run and I was pushed into 3rd place for the second time this weekend.

7th September 2014 – British Indoor Championships – Chill Factore Manchester

Sunday of the double header of races at Chill Factore in Manchester brought the British Indoor Championships, again a very strong U12 field.

Run 1 felt fast, and after the rest of the field finishing strongly, I was joint second with Harry and only 0.47 seconds behind Elliott.  So high hopes for Run 2.

Run 2 was disappointing with a slight slip on one of the gates and I couldn’t improve my Run 1 time, whilst everyone else had better Run 2’s, so ended up 5th.

Disappointed as wanted to finish off my indoor season 2014 with another podium, but given me looks to work on for 2015.

6th September 2014 – Anglo Welsh Indoor Championships 2014 – Chill Factore Manchester

All geared up for a weekend of racing at Chill Factore in Manchester, unfortunately Mum wasn’t very well on the Friday so she didn’t travel with us.

Both days had a strong field in the U12 category, so it was going to be a hard weekend and a chance to see nearing the end of the 2014 Indoor season to see how much time I have eaten into the second year U12.

Run 1 was my fastest time of the day with a 17.29 seconds leaving me in 2nd place, and a slightly slower Run 2 time 17.37 seconds cemented a podium 3rd place.

Well done to Elliott and Jack (looks like Jack, Lucas and Kayne will be the ones to beat next year in the U12s). photo 12sphoto 11 photo 12 The results can be found here.

15th June 2014 – SnowSport Scotland Scottish Indoor Championships 2014

The Scottish Championships on the Sunday complete the Braehead double header race, and I love racing here.  Usually a strong field as it attracts lots from the Scottish ski resorts and dry slopes, so any podium here is a really great result.  U12 field was the largest indoor U12 field raced against, with 17 starters of which 9 are second year U12.

Again I pushed second year U12 Elliott on both runs, but couldn’t beat his second run time.

Still, I managed to get within 0.60 seconds from his winning time and finished 2nd.  Last year I walked away with 1st place in the U10s, 2nd in my first year U12s, so watch out 2015 as I am after my Scottish Indoor Champs crown back!

2,500 people at UK Indoor Slope, this Saturday !  They were at the Snozone Milton Keynes today with Sir Steve Redgrave, Iwan Thomas and Graham Bell for the Slide2Sochi Winter Olympic roadshow. On offer were beginner snowsports sessions and plenty more.

The idea is to capitalise on the interest generated by the approaching Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics and encourage people to take up skiing or snowboarding.

The Slide2Sochi event is touring round the slopes of the UK and today it was in Milton Keynes for one of its biggest events so far.

Joining the crowds were celebrities Sir Steve Redgrave, a qualified ski instructor who was giving out tips on the slope.

The five time Olympian and BBC Ski Sunday producer Graham Bell was giving snowboarding a go before clipping into his skis to set a time on the race course.

Also on hand was former 400m runner, Iwan Thomas, who was trying skiing again after a 20 year break.

To add to the Olympic buzz, GB junior snowboarders Becky Menday and Will Gilmore were also there.

“It has been a pleasure giving out tips to people who are trying skiing for the first time. I have always loved skiing with my family and it is great to see so many people here at Milton Keynes getting such pleasure from their skiing and snowboarding sessions,” said Sir Steve.

“There has been a real buzz about the day as we get excited ahead of the Winter Olympics in Sochi next year and to top the day off I even got to try and beat Graham Bell in the timed run. I thought I had done it when I looked at the leader board, but then realised he was on his snowboard!”

Here at PlanetSKI we have skied and raced with Sir Steve out in the Alps at the Crysta SkiFest in Sestiere – he can get quite competitive especially when racing against another Olympic rower.

28th September 2013 – Snowsports England British Indoor Championships @ Chill Factore Manchester

Early start (5:00am) to travel up to Manchester this morning, and enjoyed having my gluten free cornflakes at 80mph ! whilst surrounded by my duvet ! Breakfast in Bed I called it.

The SnowSport England race today is the last SnowSport Indoor Race of the 2013 series.

SSE races for U10’s are around stubbies and the fastest of the two runs.

Run 1 I went for it and missed a gate on the tight section.

Run 2, after learning where I went wrong in Run 1 I approached the run in a more calculated way and nailed a winning time of 16.02 seconds, with Kayne running into 2nd Place with a Run 2 time of 16.80, and Lucas from Lions in 3rd with a time of 16.99 seconds.

Anglo Welsh Championship 2013

Disastrous today! (update: and I suppose I will have lots of them… in this sport)

Fell in the same spot on both my runs so no recorded time and disappointingly no podium position. All the other competitors completed the course.

Need to focus back on training this week. (update: Monday night school ski club, going to ask Wilf at Snozone, if I  can have lots of free ski runs over the area that Sunday’s course was set, and whilst the snow / ice wont be the same, lots of runs over the ridge at MK in the same racing line will help for the future).

Also must focus more on the free run time they give us so I can get used to the snow, my skis and edges.
