4th June 2016 – Rehab Day 69 – CV Session @ BRPC

After seeing Paul at Elite on Friday with Ben, they have developed a CV and Strength & Conditioning programme which I will work with Ben at Ben Reid Performance Coaching and see Paul for an update every 4-5 weeks.

So today was a CV session comprising of a 5 minutes aero test (41 VO2max) – not bad after nearly 70 days of no exercise, followed by a 45 minute cycling session on the Watt Bike.

Need to work on the quads and gluts on my right leg as the Watt Bike showing a 58%:42% L:R tendency.  Lots to work on by really good session today and great to get back in to the gym.

45 Minute stats, trying to maintain a 165 to 170bpm hear rate:

Todays overall stats – not bad for someone who sat on his backside for 69 days !

25th May 2016 – Rehab Day 59 – Physio at Elite Physical Medicene

9 Days ago I met up with Paul and Gus at Elite and had limited movement with my right knee.  So after 9 days of exercises, we have progressed from sub 100degree movement to 113 last Wednesday to 125degree today with ease and no sight of pain.

Rehabilitation coming along well !! Looking forward to progressing from movement exercises to squats and lunges and can’t wait to start working with Ben @ BRPC again !

11th May 2016 – Rehab Day 45 – Second Cast Off

Finally cast off day has come !

I am starting to take major steps on his road to recovery after snapping my ‪#‎patella‬ tendon and damaging the bone at the British Champs this year whilst out with Team Evolution.

After 6 weeks the cast is now off and leg is weight bearing and almost good as new (well, except the metal pin and bad-ass scar!)  Thanks to the staff at Stoke Mandeville and Mr Haroon.

Now comes the hard work with the rehab! 3 weeks in a knee brace getting movement back, the building some muscle!  Physio on Monday !

Great to see Mum again and great to be home and my own bed, despite it being downstairs.

31st March 2016 – Rehab Day 4 – Determined to be Released

Getting fed up of being stuck in hospital, as great as the Surgeon and Nurses are.

So aim for today was to stand without fainting and walk with my crutches.  I also wanted to met up with my Team Evolution team mates and also have some proper food !

IMG_3178.jpg

Thomas my Physio was impressed that I didn’t faint and also that I could move a little, not easy but could move.  We practiced a few exercises to build up my leg strength and he would let me leave.  I got him to sign my cast.  Next I was seen by the Surgeon and he discharged me and also signed my cast.

So after struggling to a. get in the VW Polo my Dad had hired, and b. not being able to find the hotel we were staying in overnight, we drove up to see everyone at Team Evolution.  There they all signed my cast and also had bought me a massive Marmot that I named Maurice after the Bourg Saint Maurice Hospital.

Finally food ! and a nights sleep in a non-hospital bed !

30th March 2016 – Rehab Day 3

Surgeon said I would be in a cast for the next 45 days, and then 10 to 15 weeks of rest.  He also said that I could be discharged today if the physio, Thomas (pronounced Thoma) was happy with my ability to use crutches and move about.

Unfortunately I struggled with dizziness (I fainted) and had problems lifting the cast, so another night in the hospital.  Told to eat more and get strength up.IMG_3167.jpg

So Dad brought back the biggest selection of GF McD’s he could carry.

Earlier that day Benny was released, hope he gets better soon and hopefully we can stay in touch.

Big thank you to the Marshall’s for popping in to say hi !
