Future Alpine Ski Champ ? Who Knows ! But I am going to give it my all ! (Unless covered by third party Copyright, all other material on this blog is (c) Z.Metheringham 2021)
What an amazing set of ski racers – Charlotte, Liv, Kieran (not on picture as had a big smash), Fraser, Odi and for some reason as it was my last year at Team Evolution Children’s Team, they made me Captain.
The irony that 2021 No Night Slalom ! So guess we are still English Champs !
A quick video of my life over the last couple of years ! Never been an easy journey since 2016 and the knee injuries and recovery and rehabilitations, but learning and developing all the time.
I now move on to FIS next (FIS licence all sorted) and are delighted that I will be working with Mark and Christy at Snowsport Scotland, together with Ben, Nico and Mark at BRPC.
Massive thanks to everyone who has helped me in my Children’s years of ski racing, from Ski MK Race Team and the coaches and committee, everyone at Team Evolution, the staff and my amazing teachers at Akeley Wood School and Beachborough before that, Rossignol, Uvex Winter Sports, Leki, Slug Optics, Level, Team YSN, Douchebags, Hyperlite and Racer Ready.
Looking forward to new challenges ahead both on and off snow and a new education path (fingers crossed for the GCSE results in August in these very strange times).
Quick summary of the week of the English Alpine Champs.
Had a great few days racing in Bormio. Thanks to organisers and helpers, including Mum as commentator.
SG Race 1 finished 12th in U16 (3rd Year of Birth), SG Race 2 (see video), GS finished 10th in U16 (3rd Year of Birth) and SL after a poor Run 1 made up a few places to finish 14th U16 (4th Year of Birth).
Well done to Team Evolution racers, some great racing and great fun !
Had a few good results and a crash, overall happy with the results and the skiing.
SG Race 2. WARNING CRASH!!!!!!! and the odd bit of coaches disappointment !
Giant Slalom on the Stella Alpina piste, reasonable Run 1 leaving me in 11th U16 and gained a place after Run 2, finishing in 10th U16 (great to have a top 10 in U16) and better still 3rd in Year of Birth.
Amazing runs from Aiden and Ryan (fellow U16 Year 1) to podium – great skiing guys !
Great to fly out to Bormio and catch up with my Team Evolution friends, SMK friends and everyone is the ski world again. Too early to race in Rehab journey but great to be in the mix again.
Big thanks to everyone who asked how my rehab was going. Had a few days free-skiing, a day or two in GS, Kombi and Full gates and it was great. Thank you Team Evo ! Plus new Team Evolution kit ! Great time in Milan and found an amazing Gluten Free Bakery !!! and finally found Gluten Free MacD’s! (Again massive thanks to all those who have helped me in the last 321 days!)
Not a great week of racing for me, but learnt lots and lots of areas to work on.
On Monday I took part in the U12/10 Giant Slalom on the Alpina piste – Run 1 was was not one of my best, on the backs of my skis and not pushing, so tried harder Run 2 and came out of the course.
So onwards to the Kombi on Thursday – but again whilst pushing for a good position, I came out of the course on both runs.
Lots to learn from, lots more to practice. Well done to Kayne (fellow SMK racer 5th on GS) Lucas fellow Evo racer (4th GS and 1st Kombi) Tilly (2nd GS and Kombi) with great runs from AlexO on both races and Kieran (get well soon!).
Still smiling though ! Thanks to Team Evolution Alex “Junior Coach of the Year” and Paul.
