31st March 2016 – Rehab Day 4 – Determined to be Released

Getting fed up of being stuck in hospital, as great as the Surgeon and Nurses are.

So aim for today was to stand without fainting and walk with my crutches.  I also wanted to met up with my Team Evolution team mates and also have some proper food !

Thomas my Physio was impressed that I didn’t faint and also that I could move a little, not easy but could move.  We practiced a few exercises to build up my leg strength and he would let me leave.  I got him to sign my cast.  Next I was seen by the Surgeon and he discharged me and also signed my cast.

So after struggling to a. get in the VW Polo my Dad had hired, and b. not being able to find the hotel we were staying in overnight, we drove up to see everyone at Team Evolution.  There they all signed my cast and also had bought me a massive Marmot that I named Maurice after the Bourg Saint Maurice Hospital.

Finally food ! and a nights sleep in a non-hospital bed !

30th March 2016 – Rehab Day 3

Surgeon said I would be in a cast for the next 45 days, and then 10 to 15 weeks of rest.  He also said that I could be discharged today if the physio, Thomas (pronounced Thoma) was happy with my ability to use crutches and move about.

Unfortunately I struggled with dizziness (I fainted) and had problems lifting the cast, so another night in the hospital.  Told to eat more and get strength up.IMG_3167.jpg

So Dad brought back the biggest selection of GF McD’s he could carry.

Earlier that day Benny was released, hope he gets better soon and hopefully we can stay in touch.

Big thank you to the Marshall’s for popping in to say hi !

29th March 2016 – Recovery Starts Here

Lesley stayed overnight with me, and also in the hospital room was Benny from Kent, UK.  He had broken his femur in 2 places and the same Surgeon had operated on him after me.

Woke up, sore but in good spirits.  Reidy had dropped in and dropped off some stuff including the demolished piste marker.

A day spent sleeping and resting and waiting for Dad to turn up, which he did in the afternoon.

28th March 2016 – Training Accident

Whilst training with Team Evolution for the Delancey British Championships in Tignes today, I landed in a funny angles, spun round and smashed through a piste marker.

Little did I know that, my fall was going to be bigger than I thought and ruin my whole Summer Season of training and racing.

After being rescued off the piste, I was taken to Le Lac Hospital, assessed and immediately transferred to the Hospital at Bourg Saint Maurice. On arrival I was re-x-rayed and straight into the operating theatre.

A massive thanks to John Reidy and Alex Reidy for their on piste emergency assistance.

So, after a 3 hour operation to plate and screw my chipped patella, and re attached my snapped patella tendons and 13 stitches (beat you Jonny M!), I was in recovery for what would be the next 3 days in hospital.

Throughout it all our wonderful Team Evolution house mum, Lesley stayed with me whilst my Parents looked at travelling out.  She was amazing and I can not thank her enough for being there.
